For your consideration is a rare 5-Octave Ship’s Piano made by J.B. Cramer & Co. It is in good condition for its age and is sturdily constructed with a metal frame and lovely mahogany body. It has carry-handles on the back and is moveable - two strong people can carry it easily. It is approx. 115cm long; 73cm high; 40cm deep.
Captain Scott (of the Antarctic ) was said to be an admirer of the quirky instrument, while James Joyce mentions a Ship’s Piano in ‘The Dubliners’.

The Ship’s piano was built by J.B. Cramer & Co. of London in the late 1800's – it was designed, as the name would suggest, to be taken onboard pleasure boats and other ships. It is unusual in that it does not have a ‘bottom half’, the keyboard folds up for easy transportation and storage - you can either prop it up on attachable legs (see photos) or rest it on a table, floor, or even another piano. The thread on one of the legs is a little worn but the other legs screw in nicely. We have tended to rest it on the floor due to the weight of the body.

The instrument sounds quite unique. You can read more about it and listen to a sample (from a similar model) here:
