Waterphone, "megabass" model. This is not a remake made by another company. This is an original, vintage, real Waterphone, made by Richard Waters (see the label). The megabass costs $1600 new.

How it works: water-containment area is filled with a small amount of water. The sound is produced by striking or bowing the bronze tone rods using a mallet or bow while moving the instrument. The mallet produces distinctive high-pitched sounds, while the bow produces violin harmonic-like and fluid-like undulating tones (a range of sound from a very 50's sci-fi to the sounds of whale calls). Because this is a unique, hand-crafted instrument, it not only sounds great, but looks great as a work of metal sculpture.
