The only 5-octave marimba-bar-type instrument that J.C. Deagan ever built, the Deagan Nabimba actually does not sound at all like a common marimba, as it was modeled somewhat after a buzzing Guatemalan marimba sound. It sounds more like a staccato saxophone, clarinet, or reed instrument.
